ALAMEDA -- People on Saturday rallied around a hot dog vendor whose cart was knocked to the ground by a San Francisco city worker last week in an incident captured in a video that went viral.
A long line of people waited for bacon-wrapped hot dogs in Alameda Saturday afternoon. They were there to support food vendor Juan Carlos Ramirez.
"I appreciate all the love and support. This is amazing. This is going to get me up on my toes," Ramirez said through a translator.
Last Sunday, a San Francisco Public Works road reviewer pursued Ramirez close to the waterfront and pushed over his hotdog cart. Video of the occurrence set off inescapable shock via virtual entertainment. The city had launched a crackdown on unlawful food sellers.
"I felt defenseless with no assistance by any means," Ramirez said.
The city seized his Hotdog stand. Ramirez, who lives in San Jose with his better half and kids, began selling sausages three months prior. "I do this to cover the bills and to take care of my loved ones. I'm attempting to get a grant yet it's extremely difficult at present time. So I take the necessary steps to take care of my family," Ramirez said.
